Aggravated Today & A Little Bit About Me...

Okay, so I'm thrifty, cheap, good with my money, etc. <-- Whatever you call it, I don't like to spend a lot of money on things. I wasn't always like this...but, when my husband's kidneys failed a little over 2 years ago very unexpectedly, I had to learn to live off of a much smaller income...aka disability. It is no where near what we used to get when he worked, and since I've been a stay at home mom to our three kids for the last 11 years, only dabbling in a little overworked underpaid retail management, it's not likely that I could supplement our loss from his disability. So, I'm back in school for my associate's degree in nursing and working on my bachelor's at the same time because of the long wait list at my school (that's a whole different blog post in itself! lol). And in the meantime, we are working towards a transplant for hubby and I coupon to save on the things we need and yes, some wants. Because what is life, if you can't indulge at times? So, that is what I'm going to tell myself today. I'm aggravated. I'm ticked. I'm not happy. :( I spent too much today and being as it is the end of the month, and we live on disability, that is not such a good thing. I wish I would've just put everything back. Ugggh. Let me explain what happened.

First trip was actually Walmart this morning. I had 3 Cascade coupons that made the trial size packs free (only 3 in a pack, but hey, it's free dish soap!) that were expiring today and I also needed some newspapers to start the drugstore trip. Not a problem, got the 3 Cascade trial pacs and my newspapers. Moving on....

Next was CVS. Now, I was not really planning to do much there because I know that my CVS tends to get cleared out pretty quickly. And we didn't get the Colgate toothpaste coupons in my newspaper. LOL. So, I was only getting some Skinny Cow snacks, Bic Soleil Razor Kit, Gillete ProFusion Razor, and really that was all I had planned. Well, I still have my raincheck from the last time the Bic Soleil went on sale, so I didn't have high expectations to get it this time, and I was right. It was still gone from the shelf. So, raincheck for that. Then, I got the Skinny Cow snacks (2), the Gillete razor (1), and the magic coupon machine printed me out a coupon for free U by Kotex liners ($1.77 off). I had a $1.00 off manufacturer coupon to match up with it in my binder, so I grabbed those up  and was pleased to find that they were only $1.44, so I actually got the store 1.77 off and the manufacturer 1.00 off which gave me 1.33 in overages. The magic coupon machine also printed me off a 3 off 10 purchase of cosmetics. I had a 5.00 store magic coupon machine left from last week on a Revlon product (not the ones with the ECBs though, darn!), so I bought a lip gloss that was 10.99 and really with all the coupons and overages, it ended up being $1.66, and of course I actually paid with my EBC's, so it was technically pretty much free. I got all of this today for 77 CENTS. So good trip..Saved 25.16. Still happy here...

Next, my mom was wanting some stuff at RiteAid, but due to the fact that I've been super aggravated with RiteAid almost always being out of the items I wanted to get, I've pretty much stopped shopping there. I did go ahead and get the Bic Soliel disposable razors for 1.99 + 1UP, so I guess I will start back there again this next week since I have a 1UP now, lol! Okay, still happy....

Here's where it got complicated. I normally really do love my Walgreens. I normally only do about 2-3 transactions there, occasionally even only 1. Well, I had a complicated order this week, but I was planning to only spend about $16.00 for over $100 worth of stuff and come back out with 9RR. So, after dealing with coupons that didn't match up with some products that were on sale (grrr!) and then not being able to even find a place in the store with others, I finally was ready to check out. I was planning to do 4 transactions, with my last one getting me some diapers for free for a baby shower that I'm going to need to plan here in a few months for a friend. And when I get there, the cashier (she was nice about it) told me they are no longer allowing more than two transactions per day per customer. WHAT?! Seriously. This messed me all up because I was planning to roll over some of the register rewards to other transactions, but I also was buying some things the same in different transactions. And everyone knows that if you buy a deal, get the RR, and buy the deal again and use the RR to buy it, you won't get a new RR. So...Now I have like $19 in RR but I spent close to $35 dollars. :( I think I should have just walked away, but I got blindsided by this, and really got confused and out of sorts. I keep telling myself, that it really isn't that bad, because I still saved like over a hundred dollars, but when you are a fixed income, that was a lot of money to spend. I guess its just one of those things that you have to be prepared for. I think what stinks the most, is that she said it was due to the fact that people come in and wipe the shelves clean...Stupid Extreme Couponers. See how hard you make it on the rest of us?! I don't understand why people can't just buy what they need for their family. And I told the lady, that was a stupid rule, that people will just start bringing in hubby, kids, friends to do the transactions with, so its not going to solve it. The one thing I can tell you is that, I don't think this is a Walgreens thing...It is just the Walgreens in my area. Anyway. Vent over...Time to move on with more important things in life, like the 5 million exams I have this week since its the last week of summer semester! Ugh!  Pin It

BzzAgent: About.Me

Okay, as you can see, I'm updating my BzzAgent account, and here is yet another online program I was accepted into. I'm not as content with this one...It seems a little silly to me. I'm glad it is free to everyone, because there is no way I would pay for something like this. I guess maybe if you were a huge social networker, you might could see the advantage. Well, let me tell you about what it is *supposed to do* and then I will tell you why I don't think it does it well. And then, you can try it out at about.me to see how you like it! Be sure to let me know in the comments below! :)

What is about.me?
Connect all of your online networks on a personal about.me page. It's your unique online business card, and if you join today you'll receive MOO business cards for free.

A lot of us have multiple online profiles scattered across various services, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr, and Twitter. And one problem we face is pulling all of this information together to build a single on-line identity — be it for personal use, or to create a professional on-line profile. We've focused on enabling you to:

Create your personal splash page

Quickly build a personal and dynamic splash page that points visitors to your content from around the web.
Example Splash Page

Have fun with the numbers

Understand how many people see your profile, where they're coming from, and what they do on your page.
Example Dashboard
Okay, so now to me, it sounds like it should be more business related...Like linking your business accounts or facebook pages together and getting some business cards to help with that. Right? I mean seriously, if you have that many personal social networks that you can't keep up with them all, then maybe you need to condense (aka you are spending too much time in internet lala land and not enough time with the real people in your life). I'm seriously not trying to be rude or mean here, but why the heck would I want a business card with my personal facebook and twitter information on it to hand out? That's just weird...I think I would be totally freaked out if someone I met handed me a freakin' business card to look them up on facebook. I wouldn't think much of it if it was an actual business account though, along with their business information, phone number, email addy, facebook, twitter, etc. Anyway, my point is this: I tried it out and unsuccessfully found out that I could not link my facebook page The Couponing Mommy to the account. It would only let me use my personal facebook page. So, with that being said, unless I don't know what the heck I'm doing (which is possible, lol), that means that this site FAILS to do what is advertised. You can do a URL, but every time I tried to do a URL to my facebook page (The Couponing Mommy), it gave me a "it's not you, its us something bad happened" error code. And the same was happening when I tried to link this blog through it...And they even claim they link up with Blogger as a part of their advertisement. So, I'm not real sure what to say about this one. It's not working as advertised, and I guess I'm just not so into myself that I feel the need to have an account to link accounts together and have a business card to flash around to let people know how to follow me personally. So, if you are still interested, and want to see if I ever manage to link anything to it here I am on about.me:
http://about.me/thecouponingmommy

Update* I finally managed to get the site to link my accounts. But, it was backwards that I had to do it doing a URL...Kind of like I had to use a "back door" and sneak in...LOL!Pin It

Sunday Drugstore Deals

126.10 Subtotal before Savings/Coupons - 123.69 in Savings/Coupons = $2.41 Total Out of Pocket! Savings of 98%!

This week I just went to CVS and Walgreens and skipped Rite Aid because I just didn't see anything that made me want to go the extra few miles to drive there. But, there were some really good deals this week at CVS and Walgreens (<--check out the links for coupon match-ups!). I was mostly excited this week to get the Neutrogena Wave and refill pack and only paid 0.48 cents TOOP! My daughter is starting middle school this year and I have been trying to teach her to wash her face everyday, so I'm hoping this will make it a little more *fun* for her.
CVS Trip
Subtotal 71.85 - 71.13 Savings/Coupons = 0.72 TOOP
Savings of 98%!

*I think the thing that excites me the most this week was that I used 24.68 in CVS ECBs, but I got back 24.99 in ECBs!* Plus, I still had some left from early deals and such, so I now have 32.99 in ECBs!*

Here's a quick coupon breakdown (please remember, some of the coupons may have already reached their max limit of prints or the promotion is over so you may not be able to find them):
*5 Skintimate Cream Shave on sale for $2.19 each (total of $10.95)
Used 2 $1/1 and 3 $1.50/1 (should have brought total to $4.45, but for some reason one of my $1/1 coupons wouldn't take, so I just told the cashier not to worry about it so my total was $5.45)

*1 Schick Xtreme 3 Disposable Razor on sale for $9.29 (bringing total to $14.74)
Used 1 $3/1 coupon (bringing total to $11.74)

*3 SoftSoap Pampered Hands Handsoap on sale for $2.00 each (bringing total to $17.74)
Used 3 $1/1 coupons (bringing total to  $14.74)

*2 Kraft BBQ Sauces on sale for $1.00 each (bringing total to $16.74)
Used 2 $1/1 printable (not sure where this was) Kraft BBQ Sauce coupons (bringing total to $14.74)

*1 pack of Papermate Grip Pens on sale for 1.99 (bringing total to $16.73)

*1 box of Baush & Lomb ReNu Sensitive Contact Solution on sale for $7.89 (bringing total to $24.62)
Used $2/1 ReNu Sensitive coupon from SS 6/12 (bringing total to $22.62)

*1 box of U by Kotex Tampons on sale for $3.49 (bringing total to $26.11)
Used $2 off any Kotex product coupon from a mailer (bringing total to $24.11)

*1 box of Bengay on sale for $6.29 (bringing total to $30.40)
Used $5/1 Bengay coupon (bringing total to $25.40)

Then, I used, $24.68 in ECB's that I had from a previous week, so my total was $0.72. Here's the ECB I received back:
$10 ECB for Skintimate/Schick deal
$6 ECB for Baush & Lomb ReNu deal
$1.99 ECB for Papermate pen deal
$3.00 ECB for Softsoap deal
$2.00 ECB for Bengay deal
$2.00 ECB for Kotex deal
For a total of $24.99 back in ECB!

Walgreens
Subtotal 54.25 - 52.56 Savings/Coupons = 1.69 TOOP
Savings of 97%!

*I was super excited to do the Neutrogena deal! I ended up using some of my RR to buy it knowing I wasn't going to get any back for it, which I try to avoid doing, but since I was still going to have a few RR left, I figured it was still worth it! I used $22.50 in RR today, and I still have $4.50 RR left.*

Drugstore Totals...July 3rd Week

Okay, so I'm officially behind....Again. But, in my defense (or at least that is what I'm going to keep telling myself!) I've had a lot of school work this summer. I'm sure if I wasn't such a procrastinator, I probably would get things done sooner which would lead to me having more time to do things like write on this blog. But, it's so much more fun to surf the internet for good coupons and chat on the phone with my besties! :P So, here are my drugstore totals for July 3rd sale week!

Goldfish...Fishful Thinking?

Okay, so I've been checking out some new sites around the internet lately, and I've come across this one done by Pepperidge Farm Goldfish crackers called Fishful Thinking. I've been really impressed with just how much information they have on this site...There is a lot of stuff there that is really cool! For instance, under the Family Fun tab, there is a book club that really interests me. It even has discussion questions for like a small group or book club! I'm actually thinking about getting a few of my friends involved and seeing if we can't put together a book club and meet twice a month based on these suggestions. There is also some other really great links about teaching kids optimism and in this age, I think we can ALL use that! I know negative sources meet our kids everyday and tear them down. I try to make our home a positive one to help bring them up from all of the negativity they get from everywhere else, but I found this information to be very helpful! Also, there is a Featured Products tab...and I'm super excited about the new Goldfish Sandwich Bread! And there is so much more to check out too, like the Parent Survey! They even have a facebook page especially for Fishful Thinking. Hope you enjoy the site as much as me!Pin It

Old Navy Style Council: Summer Shorts Party!

Have I told you yet that...
I ❤ Old Navy & Crowdtap
Crowdtap is an AWESOME site where you get to voice your opinions and try new products all for FREE! Old Navy is one of Crowdtap's many cool clients that does "parties" to gain knowledge about how their customers feel about their products and what can be done to change them to make them better....Hence, the Old Navy Style Council! Which I belong to *grin*. And you can too! All you have to do is sign up using your facebook account (so simple!) and start doing quick hits and discussions to earn MONEY (amazon e-giftcards) PLUS you get to pick a charity to help out at the same time! I have already earned over $55.00 and only been a member for 4 months! Plus, I've gotten to participate in 2 Old Navy parties now and a Playtex Sport Body Wipe Sample Share! Okay on to my latest....

I was picked for the Old Navy Summer Shorts Style Party. This one was a little different. I received the book with 4 coupons total in it for me and 3 of my friends. That's right....It's not just me that gets to benefit from this! You get to hook your friends up too and have a BLAST while doing it (woot woot!)! The coupons were for a pair of shorts, a top, and an accessory (included shoes, hats, belts, scarves, bags, sunglasses, and jewelry). What, you say? That's right...We ALL got to get more than just some shorts- we got a whole complete Old Navy outfit! Anyway....On to the party. We actually had a hard time coordinating this one as I ended up needing to do an orientation for clinicals at school and between my classes and everyone else's schedule, we barely made it work! I wish we could've gotten lunch afterwards and all shown off our super cool summer outfits! Being as it has been like 200 freakin' degrees here in South Carolina, we all were looking for light, summery materials. Here's some of our finds:

We all had a GREAT time, with a few mishaps. Our biggest complaint would have to be that our store was not stocked well at all. There were TONS of really cool styles to pick from, but *ahem* we are all a little bigger in the hips and the bigger sizes were non-existent. :( None of us are "plus size" so that wasn't the problem...It just seemed to be that all the cool styles (plaids and such) were only available up to a size 8. And if you were a size 2 (I mean c'mon, really?!) there would've been no problem for you at all! But, let's face it. I have a big butt. So, no size 2 (or even 8's for that matter) for me! My favorite pair was a lightweight cottony material with a drawstring in navy blue. I think they were supposed to be bathing suit coverup shorts, but they were super cute and soooo lightweight and airy, that I could totally see myself wearing them without my bathing suit. I believe the were called the Gauze Cover-up Shorts After searching around a bit, we all managed to find some cute little shorts that made each of us happy with our finds, but then we had to move on to finding a shirt to match. That actually proved to be a little simpler, but the sizes were still scarce unless you wore a small. (HINT--->Old Navy, we need more variety of sizes! We aren't all a stick with no shape! LOL) We all were heading for a more cool summer or beach look...I think because, like I mentioned above, it was like 200 degrees with humidity so thick you could karate chop it with your hands, LOL! I found a really cute summer tank top called the Knotted Racerback Tank that was a tie-dye affect in blue and gray. On to accessories...This was really fun! I have to say that I think accessories are my favorite part of an outfit because it really pulls it together and gives it that special look...For instance a cute pair of beaded sandals, beach hat, and sunglasses really make your tank top and shorts outfit look like a million bucks! I actually had a hard time with this...because I couldn't decide! I finally went with a pair of sandals in brown mostly because I had picked a navy blue outfit and all of my sandals I've bought so far this year (from Old Navy, lol!) have been silver and black. They were beaded with pinks and browns and actually looked great with my new outfit! Now....Where's the BEACH?! :)
Thanks Old Navy & Crowdtap for all the fun!

(Another Late Post, sorry!) Sunday Drugstores, FREE EGGS, and a small rant....

Sorry this is way late, but for some reason, I saved this instead of posting about it? Not sure what was up with that...I guess maybe because I  didn't break down the drugstores all the way...Anyway. It's the June 19th shopping week at the drugstores.

Paid 1.13 Total after rebate or 6.13 before rebate!

Okay, eggs were free for me because I had RR from Walgreens to get them, but 99 cents for a dozen eggs isn't a horrible price either! I'm going away for the weekend next week, so even though I didn't really think this was a great week for any of the stores...Or I guess I should say it was not anything I was overly excited about getting.
We have most of this stuff already stockpiled, so it just gets added to the stockpile closet. I want to mention though, that while I DO have lots of stuff, I don't usually ever by more than 2-3 of anything and if I do, it is because we DO use it that much. I'm not a crazy extreme couponer. I meet a very nice lady today in CVS, but she was bragging about an extreme couponer and her buggy was stocked FULL of things. I'm not even sure how she gets around the limits...And to be honest, I don't want to know! I have no problem following the "rules" of couponing and getting PLENTY for my family, PLUS I have my friends and family raid my stockpile (grocery and drugstore items) all the time to help them out. So, following the rules has NOT caused me to loose any money AT ALL. There is no need to have 300 (or even 50) of anything! Okay, rant about extreme couponing over (LOL!).

Totals for the Drugstore Trips
121.58 Subtotals - 115.45 Savings/ Coupons = 6.13 TOOP
Savings of 95%!

And actually, I'm getting a 5.00 Rebate back from the Gatorade products, so TOOP is going to be 1.13 or a savings of 99%!

FREE Toilet Paper and My Grocery Day!

CVS
FREE TOILET PAPER! Who doesn't love free toilet paper?! This was a deal at CVS that was for this past week's drugstore deals that I was supposed to not be shopping due to my camping trip. But, when I saw this post from Hip2Save...Well, how could I NOT resist? :D

So, 6.95 Subtotal - 6.95 Savings/Coupons = 0.00 TOOP

WOOT WOOT!
So, now on to my Publix trip....I did 2 transactions to show the total savings between food and non-food items like usual.
1st Transaction
131.15 Subtotal - 112.48 Savings/Coupons = 18.67 TOOP

2nd Transaction
36.98 Subtotal - 34.81 Savings/Coupons = 2.17 TOOP

*Side Note: I know it seems silly to "buy" items that you don't use...For instance, this week, the Tena pads were 0.19 together after savings/coupons. Why would I buy that, you ask. Because I save enough to donate to someone that can use them. I feel like in my families medical situation, we receive a lot of assistance and help and if this is a way for me to give back to someone else, then why shouldn't I? I always buy things like this that are free or under $1 and donate to either places I know can use the help or to friends/family members that I know can use the help.

Next, up is my Bilo trip. I really do love Bilo, but here lately I have had some really crappy cashiers. She rang me up for 5 Smart Balance milks (only had 4 and I was using a raincheck) and tried to only give me 1.16 on my free bag of Ore-Ida sweet potatoes fries coupon (she was trying to give me the savings off of the price, not the price of the potatoes), and she forgot a BOGOF coupon on my whole-grain Chef Boyardee pasta. This is like the 3rd time I've had a problem there (all different cashiers) &  it is aggravating. If customer service wasn't so wonderful, I might would find a new one to shop at! Anyway, hopefully they will start getting these ladies better trained!
39.96 Subtotal - 31.15 Savings/Coupons = 6.90 TOOP

Finals:
215.04 Subtotal - 185.39 Savings/Coupons = 29.65
A Total Savings of 86%!

Grocery Shopping (Last Week)

With all of my tests last week and trying to pack to go camping for the weekend, I never got around to posting about my grocery trip...So here's a quick breakdown!

PUBLIX (grocery)
64.13 Subtotal  - 40.78 Savings = 23.35 TOOP

PUBLIX (non-grocery)
23.83 Subtotal - 19.53 Savings = 4.30 - 4.30 Gift Card= 0.00 TOOP
*I had this gift card to Publix as part of a rebate that I did a few months back.
I was excited to get the flashlights for free right before we went camping! I've been trying to get some ever since they went on sale (green advantage flyer) but they were always gone. That and the OFF refills and the Lysol soap dispensers...That I still never managed to find. Oh well! It was still nice to get toilet paper, flashlights, aspirin, and cups for FREE! :)  Just as as side note, I like to seperate my transactions into food/non food because for me, while it is cool to see the food I get for a good price, it is more exciting to me to see the savings on the non-food items...like flashlights! Who would've ever thought you could get flashlights for free?!

BILO
I really wasn't doing Bilo this week for any reason other than to use a few coupons that were expiring and to get some drinks for this weekend's camping trip. I actually made two trips because I needed the water too. No pic of the water trip, sorry! I was grabbing it on the way out to Brevard, NC on Friday morning!
1st trip (pictured)
35.40 Subtotal - 24.79 Savings = 10.61 TOOP

2nd trip (not pictured)
2 cases of Aquafina Water 24 pk
2 cartons of Propel Zero Powder Mixes
18.98 Subtotal - 13.00 Savings = 5.98 TOOP

So my total savings on my grocery trip this week....
142.34 Subtotals - 98.80 Savings = 43.54 TOOP
A Total Savings of 69%!
